History
Alfred Cramer was born near Blackwood, New Jersey on December 12, 1844. He remained with his father upon the farm until he was of age. Farm work did not suit young Alfred’s taste, and he became a canvasser for books. This proved a valuable experience to him and it helped to fit him for a business career. After that, he came to Camden where he engaged in the coal business with his father-in-law. About this time he turned his attention to real estate, and began to purchase land with a view to laying out a town. The section of Camden called Cramer Hill is the result.

Profile
In 1913 the Eastside Elementary School was built in the 2800 block of Mickle Street. As the population began to change, the building became a junior high school and was renamed Alfred Cramer Junior High School. Around 1957 Cramer became once again an elementary school.

Since that time, Cramer has gone through many renovations and changes. Presently, Cramer is a Kindergarten to Grade 5 Elementary School with Mrs. Andrea Surratt as Principal. Cramer is located in East Camden with a student population of 51% Black, 39% Hispanic, 8% Asian, and 2% White. The 550 students that we service enjoy coming to our renovated three story red brick building. It is here that we get them off to a good start by providing a full day pre-kindergarten and kindergarten program which emphasizes language development, positive self-image, and early reading activities. Our students are currently using the Odyssey Learning Program in grades one through four. Students in second and third grade are involved in the KidBiz3000 Program. All students are using the Harcourt Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies series.

Staff members are trained on the integration of technology across the curriculum. Our staff of over 110 professional and support personnel provide daily instruction and other support services. Our school colors are blue and white and our school mascot is a panda bear.
